The 'Charlotte Museum of History' is spread out on a huge area of about ten acres. It comprises of multiple sites including the 'Hezekiah-Alexander' home site. The home site is one of the oldest establishments in the museum. It has a very large stone house and has been the oldest place in the area for a long time.
In fact, historians have found out that the house dates a long time back, somewhere around the 1700's. It's magnificent as to how such an old structure can survive the test of time and remain standing for such a long time. Visiting the museum while on a travel visit in Charlotte is a must!
Initially the stone house was acquired by the local community welfare organization who took upon them to maintain the house and repair the state in which it was. A lot of additions were made to the house and a significant amount of money was collected in charity from affluent individuals. This money was utilized in the upkeep and maintenance of the house.

The local welfare organizations then formally set-up the Museum and further collected a lot of money from the local traders to formally lay the foundation stone for the museum. In fact, it was not until the year 1975 that the foundation of the museum was officially laid. After that, the group never looked back.
They started collecting antiques and artifacts from nearby areas and other museums in order to showcase it here in the museum. In the late 90's, the museum administration finally mooted the proposal of expanding the museum to a three storey complex. The Charlotte travel guide clearly states it to be a wonder of the city and recommends one to definitely visit the place once.
