Charlotte History
Travel to Charlotte, NC only begins in 1755 when the first settler, Thomas Polk, decided to build his house here which is the intersection for 2 Indian trading areas situated in between the Catawba and Yadkin rivers. Before Thomas Polk came to Charlotte, the place was already inhabited by the Native Catawba Indians. After them, other settlers had come and started building their houses in Charlotte.
The people who came to reside here are usually Scots-Irish Presbyterians which is why Presbyterians are still in Charlotte today. Other settlers also include German, Swiss, English, French and Scottish. In just a few years, Charlotte had then grown big enough to be called as "Charlotte Town".
By 1770, grid patterns for the streets were made to prepare for Charlotte's future as a city. There became the Trade Street then the Tryon Street and the two street's intersection was then called the Square. Then in a few years, the first gold rock was found by Conrad Reed which then made Charlotte famous as the first gold rush in the United States.
