When were the Different Express Routes Added to Charlotte Area Transit System
Though bus transportation existed from Charlotte Area Transit system since 1976 itself but most of the routes till the year 1999 were actually local in nature. In fact, there were virtually no express routes available. With the increasing demands of the growing city needs, the local routes were actually proving to be inadequate.

The different express routes were added to CATS primarily in the year 2000. It was at this time when the expansion of the transit system was ensured and some of the local routes were also added to the entire transit system. The express routes only became possible as a part of Charlotte Area Transit system only with the emergence of Metropolitan Transit Commission in the year 1999.
The objective of this commission was to primarily oversee the different improvements related to suburbs and other bordering counties in correlation to Charlotte. This led to the formation of the new transit system for Charlotte with express routes also in place and with the local bus service also being expanded.
