Downtown Charlotte Attractions

If your travels in Charlotte are business related, you probably won't have too much time to explore. If you're looking for exploration to be limited to the downtown area this summer, you'll still have many things to do and places to see in your free time or on weekends. Downtown Charlotte or City Center or Uptown as it's also referred to is full of great nightlife options and restaurants apart from tourist attractions.

Here's a list of attractions:

1. Discovery Place: Play to the geek in you by visiting the science museum which will keep you fascinated for hours. When you're tired you can relax by watching the latest Hollywood flick at the Omnimax theatre which is also located on the same premises. Another interesting attraction close by is the Charlotte Nature Museum that displays live animals that are exclusive to North Carolina.

2. Avenue: Check out this Charlotte Skyscraper which stands 435ft tall. While 35 of the 36 floors are apartments, the ground floor should keep you entertained with its 6,700 sq ft of shops.

3. ImaginOn: Who doesn't have an inner child! Cater to the story loving part of you. Visit this massive learning center aimed at children and teens. It houses:

- Tech Central, the loft and Studio I: Tech Central is a large computer lab that offers a variety of learning activities to teens, kids and adults. The Loft provides 4,000 sq ft of space for teens to come and hang out, team up and work on innovative projects. It also has graphic novels, books, CDs and DVDs aimed at teenagers. Studio I is the space where teens work together to produce animations and soundtracks.

- The Spangler's children's library.

- McColl Family Theatre and Wachovia Playhouse: It's where you can watch plays staged by children.
