Harris Teeter locations trace their origin in the depression era to two pioneering entrepreneurs. In 1936, W. T. Harris of downtown Charlotte opened his first supermarket called the "Harris Supermarket", but he moved to other locations that form part of the Central Avenue. It was the first of its kind in North Carolina to permit customers to pick their own groceries on the shelves. Most Charlotte hotels are located close to the Harris Teeter supermarkets so while you are doing your shopping, you will easily find a place to dine.
