
Have an Ultimate Visual Experience at Mint Museum of Art Charlotte - The First Art Museum in North Carolina
Mint Museum was the first museum to be built in North Carolina and presently is the largest institution of visual arts in the state. The museum has two wings namely Mint Museum Randolph and Mint Museum Uptown.
The Randolph wing was inaugurated in 1936 and has been in operation since then. It holds more than 5000 works of art from American, ancient American cultures and more than 13000 objects on ceramics and decorative art collection ranging over a vast time period of 2000 B.C. to 1950 A.D. It includes Chinese ceramics, 18th century American and European wares and traditional American art pottery items tipped to be one of the best in the USA.
Also worth watching is the Craft and Design collection of the museum which was opened in 1999 to honor the rich cultural heritage of Charlotte. It contains over 2500 different artistic works mainly in the form of furniture and jewelry.
The other wing of the museum known as Mint Museum Uptown Charlotte will be inaugurated on October1, 2010. The building has been built over an area of 145,000 square feet and will display the various objects of the Crafts and Design collection on its five floors. Among other attractions will be a collection of more than 10,000 types of clothes of men, women and children ranging as far back as the early 18th century.
