The Carowinds theme park is an approximately 122 acre theme park and is located adjacent to Interstate 77.
This theme park was established in 1973 at a cost of about $70 million. In June 2006, the Cedar Fair Entertainment Company acquired Paramount Parks inclusive of Carowinds. It is presently under the ownership of Cedar Fair Entertainment Company and it was built by a Charlotte businessman who was partly inspired by a trip to Disneyland.
