What is the Independence Park Charlotte

The Independence Park is situated in the heart of the Elizabeth neighborhood and is the oldest Park in the entire region of Charlotte. History of Independence Park

This is the earliest recreational area to be owned by the City of Charlotte and is located to the east of Sugar Creek between Monroe Road and Elizabeth Avenue. John Noel designed it in the 1905. In 1931, the Lillian Arhelger Memorial was build in memory of a schoolteacher who died while trying to save a child.
